Spotify is celebrating Black History Month in a big way. The leading streaming service has announced a bunch of few initiatives, playlists and special curated material in honor of February.<\/p>\n

Fans of the genre will be able to experience a\u00a024-hour homepage takeover<\/a>\u00a0of exclusive hip-hop playlists. The homepage takeover will reach hip-hop fans around the world, with the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Japan taking part.<\/p>\n

Additionally, Spotify has announced the launch of four new playlists dedicated to Hip Hop which should give fans an even wider choice while exploring new sounds within the genre.<\/p>\n

New Hip-Hop playlists:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

New Joints<\/strong>: These are the newest rap songs our editors think fans should know. The hip-hop version of New Music Friday.<\/p>\n

Door Knockers<\/strong>: A playlist celebrating trailblazing women in hip-hop history.<\/p>\n

Trophy Room<\/strong>: This mood-based playlist is for anyone who\u2019s feeling celebratory.<\/p>\n

<\/div>\n

City To City<\/strong>: This playlist features songs from the Drill scenes of New York, London, and Chicago.<\/p>\n

Playlist takeover:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Many of Spotify\u2019s playlists, which can be found in the Black History Is Now hub, will be guest curated by influential Black curators, celebrities, creatives and more. Here\u2019s a list below.<\/p>\n

Black Lives Matter<\/strong>: American Jazz artist, Keyon Harrold Sr. and his son, Keyon Harrold Jr., who\u00a0 are no strangers to speaking out against injustice are now using the power of music to further the conversation by taking over this playlist in partnership with the organization, Color of Change.<\/p>\n

I Love My HBCU<\/strong>: Celebrate the institutions that educate and uplift as 2Chainz guest curates the popular playlist complete with homecoming anthems.<\/p>\n

Black to the Future<\/strong>: Spotify features and supports up-and-coming Black artists including Amaarae, who will help capture Afrofuturism\u2014in all its wild, otherworldly musical dimensions\u2014by guest curating the playlist.<\/p>\n

Queen<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 Keke Palmer<\/p>\n

Black Love Mixtape<\/strong>: Launching on February 12th, ahead of Valentines Day, artists Lucky Daye and Ari Lennox will co-curate the new playlist dedicated to celebrating Black love.<\/p>\n

New Looks and renaming of Playlists:<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Three\u00a0Spotify<\/span>\u00a0playlists will be displaying their new looks and sounds today:<\/p>\n

Westside Story<\/strong>: Formerly of the moniker \u201cCali Fire,\u201d this playlist has expanded its scope beyond California to cover the entirety of the West Coast.<\/p>\n

No Cap<\/strong>: Previously called \u201cThe Realest Down South,\u201d this mix features Southern artists, old and new.<\/p>\n

Out The Mud<\/strong>: \u201cOff The Strength\u201d fans can now find street artists on this refreshed playlist.<\/p>\n

In addition, Spotify has launched some new initiatives with podcasts which includes a fresh podcast by acclaimed writer and author, Danyel Smith called\u00a0Black Girl Songbook<\/em>. \u201cIn a new Music + Talk show, join Danyel Smith as she celebrates and uplifts the talents of Black Women in the music industry. Listen as she shares music and discusses the stories of Black songwriters, producers, executives and more, celebrating the musical creativity and genius of Black women first,\u201d says the description. A trailer\u00a0is available now<\/a>\u00a0while the full series launches on February 4.<\/p>\n
