Seasons By Jordana Delgado

Jordana Delgado is a talented singer, songwriter, and pianist based in Vancouver. Her large following is built up through intimate musical portraits, with a nostalgic composition style in the works. Only recording with her piano, from her home studio, lets Jordana’s dexterity shine through in the most personal ways.  Building a name for herself within Vancouver’s indie scene, Jordana Delgado boasts over 3k listeners per month on Spotify to her compositions. She has also gained prominent placement on CBC Radio with singles like “Autumn Leaves.”

Jordana Delgado just released her new EP, simply titled “Seasons,” on July 26. The five-track anthology—four of which were previously released between October 2023 and May 2024 as separate singles—will thread the works together through a thematic through-line in a deep dive into nature’s metamorphoses across the changing yearly cycles.

At the center of her compositions lies a nostalgic tone, allowing audiences to be submerged deep into vivid reminiscences and stunning imagery called forth by the sight, sound, and sensations bound with the periods of seasonal rotation. This EP appropriately opens with Jordana’s cover of the melancholy classic “Autumn Leaves.” Her solo arrangement at the piano removes all but the most naked of elements from the piece to deliver solemn beauty onto an evocation of falling from the trees. She imbues her delicate melodies and chord progressions with a sense of nostalgic sentiment; a bittersweet acknowledgment of the ending seasons.

“Somewhere in My Memory,” from the beautiful John Mellencamp ballad, exchanges the original’s very jolly flavors for something much more intimate piano-led. The delicate lullaby “The Cradle” by Delgado fashioned a cradling, lulling piano melody line that evokes scenes of snow gently falling outside a window. Spare and yet elegant, it contains a sense of calm hibernation and reflection within the soothing tones.

The only original composition by Delgado on the EP is “The Dancing Pink Flowers”, an effervescent piece that ushers in the buoyancy of spring with a high-pitched dancing piano part. The brisk melodic and rhythmic motifs evoke the rebirth and renewal of the season in celebratory spirits.

Delgado concludes “Seasons” with his recreation of the dream-like ambiance and minimalist textures of Yann Tiersen’s much-loved piano composition, “Comptine D’un Autre été: L’après-Midi”. Her playing retains the ethereal magic of this piece and brings the journey to a gently wistful, picturesque close, redolent of long summer afternoons.

The recording was done in an intimate home studio setup with her upright acoustic piano; She tried to record this music so that it would wrap listeners in an immediacy and rawness that placed them next to the performance. With recording, mixing, and mastering by Akashic Records, “Seasons” accomplishes just that—carrying audiences into Delgado’s creative space as if one had taken a seat beside her at the keyboard. As a result of this more stripped-down sonic method compared to her lushly 2021 album “Rainy Times,” there arrives enhanced resonance and direct emotionality for her players and vocals.

To Jordana Delgado, the “Seasons” EP represents a full-circle, fruitful ending to the chapter that first opened tentatively with initial single releases last year. For those yet to be treated to Jordana Delgado’s special touch, there has never been a better time to be immersed. Stream “Seasons” in its entirety today on all major platforms.
