Nice Money By FOR YOU BROTHER

FYB, an abbreviation for “For You Brother,” is far from being your everyday rock band. The duo of Jon Dash handling guitars and bass, and the late, great Deep Soul School on vocals, charges out of the gate with explosive energy that takes you back both to the golden age of rock and paves a path into entirely uncharted sonic territory.

Their latest single, “Nice Money,” is the perfect introduction for new fans to their sound. It starts with a high-energy, artful guitar riff over a very tight rhythm section—the product of combined bass and drums that provide basic grounding for the song’s bouncy pulse. Deep Soul School’s vocals sail over the instrumental bed refreshingly and interestingly.

The production is extremely cutting-edge, slick, and shiny, with tons of effects and textures that let this sound breathe, giving it depth and dimension. In reality, the guitar playing is the most impressive: the way it represents their technical skills in musicianship both melodically and aggressively, makes the vibe of the song just full of energy.

“Nice Money” is one of those charming, upbeat songs that are sure to put a smile on your face. It represents what For You Brother sounds like—a strong knowledge of classic rock paired with modern production, where somehow it’s both familiar and new.

Jon Dash and Deep Soul School met in 2007 when Jon hired Deep to rap on a song he was writing. It was a brilliant creative marriage of sorts, as within five years, they had written over 200 songs. Tragically, Deep Soul School died suddenly, leaving behind a gaping hole in the music world that will prove tough to fill. His spirit does, however, survive through his songs, which he wrote along with Jon Dash.

For You Brother’s sound is simply addictive, it’s like a shot of straight energy, a shot from the past revised with a new twist. On “Nice Money,” one feels the swagger of classic rock, with the production sounding gleaming and new. I am glad to have checked out this release, definitely in for a permanent spot on my playlist.

FYB’s music is an optimization that great music is something timeless and not necessarily attached to just one genre. If you want to crank the volume up to ten and let loose, this is the song you need to hear. Right now, go to your favorite streaming platform and check out “Nice Money.”
