Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Eddie Cohn is an insolently creative performer imposed across the genres of rock, indie, and pop. In a career that seems to be full of accomplishments and multiple recordings, he proves his talents to be inherent, which makes him a multi-instrumentalist of prominent competence in constructing original works of music. Whether he’s taking on intricate production work himself or playing with other performers, Eddie continues to deliver the highest levels of professionalism a musician can offer.
Now, he’s back with his fourth release of the year in “Keep Them Away,” refocusing on the formula that I adore from him, around driving guitars and big choruses. This track bleeds ’90s alternative rock, with guitars shining through the verse, interlacing a sun-soaked melody that fairly radiates cool. His vocals are surging with confidence, putting the listener at ease as he sings with the assured charisma of a seasoned frontman.
Eddie Cohn delivers the lead and backing vocals, acoustic guitar, synth, piano, and percussion, certainly not short of a multi-instrumentalist at work. At the same time, the trademark Brett Farkas electric guitar weaves throughout and is a standout. Sean Hurley locks in the tight bass groove, while Jake Reed lays down powerful drums and percussion. Kevin Penner’s mix is crisp and punchy. One listen, and you can hear this is a true labor of love from an artist at the top of his game.
“Keep Them Away” is quite a sensation. Kevin Penner’s mix punches through the speakers while maintaining crisp low-end definition; ripe for crossover to rock radio formats. Broadly, though, it proves Cohn has many more tricks that will keep surprising his fans. On “Keep Them Away,” Eddie Cohn turned in one of this year’s most rousing and feel-good rock anthems, a real showmanship of his skill.
I love Eddie Cohn’s direction into rock with his single “Keep Them Away.” Being the huge fan that I am of 90’s rock, I’ve been into his rock work in the past. This track, however, spoke to me on an entirely different level. When the shimmering production came, I knew this was Eddie like I’d never heard of him.
I cannot but recommend Eddie Cohn’s new single, “Keep Them Away.” One listen and I have no doubt this song will be your new drive with the windows down, singing at the top of your lungs jam. You won’t want to miss what is sure to be a signature song in the evolving career of Eddie Cohn.
